Shimrit Janes

Writing Nature’s Voices

We are nature. And, in an age of profound nature disconnection and ecological collapse, poetry and prose can be powerful methods to help us remember that we are an intrinsic part of the natural world rather than objective witnesses to it. This talk will explore ways we can write ‘as’ nature, rather than ‘about’ nature. Please bring your notebook. pens or keyboard for some interactive invitations during this poetic talk.

Shimrit Janes is a writer, poet, facilitator and researcher. Her work includes exploring different perspectives from the natural world, as well as how humans can remember themselves as of nature rather than separate from it – particularly within urban environments. She is co-author of the non-fictional Nature of Work: The new story of work for a living age (2021), and is currently working on her debut verse novel, which is about rediscovering an eco-spiritual worldview after burnout.

Edward Adonteng

Musings on the Manuscript

How do we bring the stories that percolate throughout our minds to the people around us? How do we arrange and design the way in which we want to share these stories? Is now the time? Why a manuscript? This talk-workshop invites you to bring yourself and your pen/keyboard/pencil/screen and ponder the process of what it looks like to assemble works to create a collection.

Edward Adonteng is an essayist, poet, grower and researcher from South London. Published as a Contemporary Ghanaian Poet (Contemporary Ghanaian Writers Series 2024), his poetry explores themes of time, identity and humanity, as well as a reckoning with self. He was a Barbican Young Poet for 2025/26 and has been longlisted for the Forward Prize. His work has been published in CING Magazine and Make it Plain. He is currently working on his debut collection
