Event Type

Join Sean Bennett for this 2.5-hour workshop on “exploded moments”. Discover how the expansion of a scene via the 5 senses can aid both pace and profundity. An exploded moment is something writers use when they want us to slow down, to witness what a given character witnesses. It helps us tap into the essence of the moment, and is an exemplar of the “show, not tell” approach. Together, we’ll be looking at how established authors render their own exploded moments. Then we’ll have a go – with a couple of fun, inspiring prompts – at creating our own versions, to take home and keep, or perhaps even develop into a longer piece.

Sean is a writer, workshop host, and organiser based in Nottingham and London. As a former copywriter and copyeditor for Oxford University Press, he brings a creative, editorial eye to other people’s work, usually in the context of the London-based creative writing community he leads, called A Write & A Pint. He has a passion for all literature, but most specifically, existential, modern, postmodern, and literary fiction
