Our main speaker in April is Nick Spalding who will take us through his journey to becoming a full time author, describing the twists, turns and highlights along the way. Nick Spalding is an author who, try as he might, can’t seem to write anything serious.
Before becoming a full-time author, he worked in the communications industry, mainly in media and marketing. As talking rubbish for a living can get tiresome (for anyone other than a politician), he thought he’d have a crack at writing comedy fiction – with a very agreeable level of success so far, it has to be said. Nick is now a multimillion seller. This flabbergasts him every single day.
Becoming a Workshop Facilitator
AJ will take us through the journey of how she started working as a Workshop Facilitator, and what she’s learned along the way (including practical tips for running your own workshops and getting funding). She will also discuss the benefits and challenges to being a workshop facilitator alongside developing your writing career.
AJ Hardingson is a mixed-race poet, author and workshop facilitator. AJ designs and develops creative community workshops in Southampton and the New Forest to support wellbeing and belonging, specialising in accessibility for beginners, as well as working specifically with marginalised groups. AJ has run workshops at Play on Words, Winchester Poetry Festival and Bournemouth Writing Festival. A recent mentee of the Write Beyond Borders international literature development programme, AJ is currently working on a poetry project on belonging and ethnic diversity in the New Forest, and a queer spy novel set in Elizabethan England.
